What does the City of Frisco require on residential job sites?
The City of Frisco requires 1 portable sanitation facility per 5 building sites, no more than 200 feet walking distance between facilities. Facilities must be on site at the time of initial construction activities and must be serviced. The rule comes from the Frisco Residential Inspection Checklist, revised February 2026.
- Count: 12 lots on one street = at least 3 units (12 ÷ 5 = 2.4, rounded up).
- Spacing: no lot more than 200 feet walking distance from a unit.
- Timing: on site when work starts, not after the slab.
- Same checklist: trash containers emptied when full, mud kept off streets, erosion control maintained.

Do construction sites need handwashing stations?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(f) requires employers to provide adequate washing facilities for employees using paints, coatings, herbicides or insecticides, or in other operations where contaminants may be harmful. Farm work under OSHA 1928.110 requires 1 toilet and 1 handwashing facility per 20 workers within a quarter-mile walk.
A PolyJohn Bravo two-station sink holds 22 gallons, about 350 uses, and is serviced on the same weekly route as your toilets.
Legal minimum vs what we recommend
The legal minimum is the floor, not the target. Dennis Rental Works recommends 1 standard unit per 15 workers in July and August, weekly service at minimum, a handwash station on every site over 10 workers, and placement within 200 feet of the work. These recommendations reduce complaints and time lost walking to a unit.
| Item | Legal minimum | Our recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Toilets, crew of 30 | 1 seat + 1 urinal | 2 standard units |
| Service | "Serviced" (Frisco) | Weekly, logged; twice weekly in heat |
| Hand washing | Where harmful substances used | 1 sink per site over 10 workers |
| Placement | 200 ft max (Frisco residential) | As close as truck access allows |
Questions renters ask us
How many porta potties does my crew need under OSHA?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c) Table D-1 sets the minimum. 20 or fewer workers need 1 toilet. 20 or more workers need 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. 200 or more need 1 seat and 1 urinal per 50. Check your contract and permit for stricter rules.
Does Frisco require a porta potty on residential construction sites?
Yes. The City of Frisco Residential Inspection Checklist (February 2026) requires 1 sanitation facility per 5 building sites, no more than 200 feet walking distance apart. Facilities must be on site at the start of construction and kept serviced. Confirm details with Frisco Building Inspections.
Do I need a handwashing station on my jobsite?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(f) requires washing facilities where workers handle paints, coatings, herbicides or other harmful substances. Many general contractors require a sink on every jobsite anyway. A PolyJohn Bravo two-station sink holds 22 gallons and is serviced on the same weekly visit.
Can the porta potty go on the street or sidewalk in Frisco?
Keep it on private property. Units on a Frisco sidewalk, street or alley can block access and draw a code complaint. If private property is not possible, ask the City of Frisco about right-of-way use before delivery.
Can you stake the unit down so it does not blow over?
Yes. Dennis Rental Works can stake or strap units on open jobsites and windy lots at no charge when requested. North Texas spring storms can bring strong gusts, so anchoring is a good idea on bare lots from March through June.
